As age-inclusivity trailblazers, at The Bias Cut we're passionate about championing an intergenerational approach to style. Whether you're in your 20s or in your 70s, you can wear and feel fantastic in our pieces. And what better example of this intergenerational attitude is there than seeing mothers and daughters sharing their love for style with one another?

Once upon a time the idea of "dressing like your mother" came with connotations of looking frumpy, dowdy and old-fashioned, whilst "dressing like your daughter" usually came in conjunction with that horrible, ageist phrase "mutton dressed as lamb". But today, diving into each others' wardrobes should be welcomed and embraced. Through this age-inclusive approach, we can kick those ageist, out-dated ideas to the curb, and instead inspire and learn from one another, picking up new ideas and tips that enable us to have ave even more fun with our wardrobes.

So to celebrate Mother's Day, mother & daughter duos Jess and Sheena, and Lucy and Vivi picked their favourite pieces from The Bias Cut's new collection, and shared with us how their relationships have inspired their style and their views on intergenerational style.

Bottom Picture: Jess wears the Boyfriend Maxi Dress, Sheena wears the Lace Smock Dress

How would you describe your style?

Jess: Simple classics with the odd pop of colour or print.

Sheena: Casual

What attracted you to the piece you're wearing?

Jess: The graphic print and the easy fit of the Boyfriend Maxi dress is perfection! The graphic print of the Reversible Bomber Jacket is so fun!

Sheena: The cut and comfort of both dresses

How have you inspired and influenced each other's style?

Jess: My mum has taught me that comfort is key, and it can be done elegantly. Also she’s always advised me to invest in one classic piece, in particular a good coat. She’s got a great collection!

Sheena: Jess always reminds me that I don’t need a larger size and to try things I wouldn’t naturally choose.

What's your favourite piece from each others' wardrobe that you'd love to wear?

Jess: It’s actually a black and white knitted jumper which she’s handed down to me. I love pairing it with any loosely cut bottoms, it works with both trousers and skirts / dresses!

Sheena: Her big wooly jumpers, she’s got quite a collection!

What's your top style tip?

Jess: Dress for your body and no one else’s!

Sheena: Always feel comfortable in what you're wearing, otherwise it doesn’t matter how lovely it is, it won’t look right.

Do you think style can transcend through the generations - regardless of your age?

Jess: Yes, 100%! It’s your coat of armour and outward expression of your personality which evolves with you. I certainly don’t think you should be dressing a certain way because of what age you are!

Sheena: Definitely!

Lucy & Vivie

Vivie wears the Ivory Summer Blazer and Confetti Flowers Poppy Kimono, Lucy wears the Odillia Jumper and the Poppy Red Blazer

How would you describe your style?

Vivie: Simple, classic with splashes of colour

Lucy: Casual but also colourful, I like to feel comfortable in what I am wearing.

What attracted you to the piece you're wearing?

Vivie: I love the classic and polished Ivory Summer Blazer - I love blazers! And the Confetti Flowers Poppy Kimono is colourful and a bit of summer holiday fun

Lucy: I really liked the flowers on the Odillia Jumper, it reminded me of spring but also really wearable for this time of year.  The colour of the Poppy Red Blazer stood out to me and thought it would be a great statement piece to take me into summer.

How have you inspired and influenced each other's style?

Vivie: Lucy keeps me aware of new tends but also very aware not to dress like a 20 year old!

Lucy: She loves colour and statement pieces and it has definitely rubbed off – I think it makes such an impression.

What's your favourite piece from each others' wardrobe that you'd love to wear?

Vivie: Her blue coat!

Lucy: She has a bright blue silk skirt that I’d love to borrow if she’d let me!

What's your top style tip?

Vivie: Wear something you really like the look of and don’t look in the mirror too much! Women over scrutinise in the mirror and all the joy and confidence in the outfit seeps away!

Lucy: Wear what makes you happy!

Do you think style can transcend through the generations - regardless of your age?

Vivie: Of course! Never give up on being your own self! But, women’s bodies do change and it is wiser just to accept that and work with it. My advice is always to follow your own personal style and the looks you like - whether that’s specific colours, patterns, accessories, combo’s etc - but moderate the tailoring and fit over the years to make sure you’re comfortable

Lucy: Yes for sure - i think its all about trying new things and finding what works for you regardless of your age.
