As the founder and CEO of a fashion business, unsurprisingly attending professional photoshoots aren't a rare occurrence for me. But what is unusual is when I'm in front of the camera. Other than posing for the occasional headshot pic, I'm usually glued to the monitor screen, watching the magic happen in front of me as our brilliant team of creatives bring our clothes and vision to life.
So when Prima Magazine invited me and my mum, Marilyn, to take part in their mother/daughter photoshoot earlier this year, I was equal parts excited and nervous. But it was an opportunity I couldn't pass - especially given the theme of Mother's Day.
Mother's day is always a special day for us here at The Bias Cut. Not only was my mum my inspiration behind starting the business, it back on Mother's Day 2013 that I first revealed my idea to her.
At the time I was in my 3rd year of studying law and her and my brother come to visit me for the day in Cambridge. As we ate lunch in a local restaurant and discussed my brother's business, I sheepishly mentioned that I'd had an idea. As I revealed my idea for a truly age-inclusive shopping boutique that disrupts the ageist norms around ageing, they both starred at me, somewhat speechless. Then, after a few minutes of pause, my mum said "You have do this."
And the rest, as they say, is history.
So not only was this an opportunity to have fun and have some lovely professional mother/daughter pics taken; it felt like a perfect moment to celebrate The Bias Cut's journey 6 years in, and the fact we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for my mum.
Overall it was a fantastic day and, most importantly, my mum had a great time. Here are the results!
