The Five Non-Negotiable Pillars of Health and Wellness

It’s always a pleasure to turn negative events on their head and see them as a positive thing we can learn from. This year has certainly brought its challenges, but almost all of us have come away wiser and learned something new– whether that’s discovering our own reserves of inner strength or perhaps a renewed focus on wellness and great health.

Here at Lumity, we’ve been determined to focus on becoming the best versions of ourselves we can be. Being able to run that extra mile each morning, or complete extra sets in the gym is fantastic, but we’ve also been eating food that nourishes the body so it can function at its best and focusing on hobbies which feed the mind. Truly good health shows in all areas of life and means good skin, great sleep, strong immune health and a happy, positive outlook.

If you’re struggling to focus on your health right now, we’ve found it helpful to break it down to five pillars of wellness. If you can tick off each of these every day, they work together to complete the picture of optimum health. They’re exercise, stress management, quality sleep, nutrition, quality supplements.

Let’s take a closer look.

Exercise: Some people love exercise, while others find it hard to get motivated to workout. The good news is there’s something for everyone when it comes to keeping fit. Exercise boosts the body’s levels of endorphins which means you have access to a lovely supply of happiness if you work out every day. It also reduces stress, boosts libido, enhances brain function and eases joint pain, as well as helping you to keep your weight in check. Try adding just 30 minutes of exercise into each morning. It could be as simple as doing a routine on YouTube or going to your local gym and hitting a treadmill or exercise bike.

Long-term, see working out each day as an investment in your future health and happiness levels.

Stress Management: Life is stressful these days. But the good news is there’s some simple and effective ways to manage stress. Numerous scientific studies have found doing yoga and meditating each day for 30 days can ease depression and reduce stress more effectively than prescription medication could in the same amount of time. We like Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube for yoga classes anyone at any level and any age can do at home. Headspace have a fantastic app for daily meditation – they just ask that you set aside ten minutes each day.

Quality Sleep: Everything feels better after a great night’s sleep. It’s when the body conducts internal deep cleaning and looks after the cells in our brains and skin. Translation If you sleep well each night, you’ll have better skin, plus you’ll think clearly with less brain fog, as well as having more energy and a better mood. But if you’re going through a stage of sleeping poorly, the chances are you’re wondering if you’ll ever sleep well again! The answer is yes. Practice good sleep hygiene, so turn off the television and your phone for an hour before you go to bed and read a book instead. Steer clear of eating anything which could disrupt your sleep – junk food, sugary treats and carb laden foods cause inflammation which can keep people awake for hours. Try to exercise in the morning so you’re tired out physically in the evening and meditate for ten minutes before you go to sleep. Nutrients can help such as magnesium and the amino acids alanine, l-cysteine, arginine, l-glutamine and co-enzyme Q10.

Nutrition: Food is fuel for the body, so give it a supply of quality nutrients so you can function at your best all day every day. As tempting as they might seem at times, processed foods, refined sugars and unhealthy fats will make you feel awful long-term. They impact your energy levels (we’ve all experienced a carb coma) you won’t feel like exercising and they have a negative impact on sleep. Focus on filling your plate with high quality lean protein, slow burning carbs, fruits and vegetables, plus good fats and oils. Look up the current recommendations for your daily calorie intake according to your height and current weight. We like using a calorie counter app by MyFitnessPal to count the calories we’re consuming as we go each day. It can be so eye opening and ensures we don’t have too much or too little of one food group. We can keep a record of the macro and micronutrients we are eating and even factor in how many calories we have burned exercising. It’s also a great way to keep yourself motivated if you’re trying to lose weight.

Quality Supplements: A healthy diet can give you many of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals you need to look and feel your best each day, but unfortunately, we can’t get all we need from food alone these days. Taking a quality, scientifically calibrated supplement like Lumity’s Morning and Night Supplements – there’s a men’s formula now too – will ensure you have a steady supply of nutrients throughout the day and night. Taken consistently they’ll nourish your body from the inside out, delivering the right nutrients at the right time. An independent clinical study found 92% of participants experienced a significant shift in the condition of skin, hair and nails. 84% said they had more energy, with increased immunity and improved emotional balance being amongst the findings. After one month, Zoe Diana Draelose, MD of Dermatology Consulting Services, PLLC in High Point, North Carolina said there was, “Statistically significant preference for the supplement over the placebo in terms of waking up less, fewer colds, increased mental alertness, increased emotional balance, enhanced endurance, improved hair quality, stronger and healthier nails, better skin and increased skin hydration. These results continued to increase throughout the study.” With Lumity being able to improve appearance and wellbeing thanks to a team of antioxidant vitamins, trace minerals, a variety of amino acids, essential fatty acids and nutrients it’s a worthy addition to any health and wellness routine.
